I agree with you. It's breaking those countries and they're finally beginning to wake up only because they have to.
Socialism breaks people down, takes away incentive and makes people lazy. So lazy that it's a system that will take a long time to recover from.
They are beginning to lean to the right a bit, but it will take a long time before they can be placed into the category of being conservative. They're working on it though and are finally seeing the light.

Actually, if you pay attention to the world you'll see that there is a pretty constant shift everywhere. They will go one way, then back the other.
Neither way is correct or any better obviously. The liberal lean is what saved the UK after WWII. It is getting outdated now and its time to replace it with something else.
Its not a question of what is the better way, it is a question of what is best for the country at the current time.
I may be extremely conservative politically, but I will be voting liberal in the near future because that is what I think has the best chance of correcting our current issues.

There was something during the Cold War called "The Doctrine of Convergence". It stated that as time progressed, as capitalism became more socialist and communism granted more and more privatizaiton, you wouldn't be able to tell the two apart.
I think there is a "Doctrine of Convergence" with Europe and America. Europe is trying to cope with its more social polices and America is trying to become more socialistic. What you may see is some sort of socialist policies based on private companies (such as offering everyone access to health care by insuring everyone with private policies.)

That's right the leftist socialists and Social democrats. What's the first?Former Christan Democrats who not by any stretch can be compared to American conservatives.
Most countries in Europe still have social democrats in their governments

While they are showing a turn to the right, they are still pretty liberal. Look at German and Spain and until now, France. All very liberal and almost socialistic in nature.
We know from history, socialism and communism don't last long because the don't work. As long as people have level heads on their shoulders and think before acting or running their mouths, America will be ok. We can see past the smoke and mirrors of the ultra left and yes, the ultra right. both have hidden agenda's that don't work too well for us as a nation.

France elects a "conservative" who is a little to the right of Howard Dean, and all of the sudden Europe is "sick of the leftist socialist ways." These are the same idiots who thought 51% of the vote was a "mandate" pay no heed.

Um... they turned to the right before. Remember the early 1900's. Oh and pre-revolutionary Europe. And many many times before. It is a natural cycle that occurs because when one side is in power for to long they become corrupt. What is funny about the US is that it takes about two years for it to happen.

I know one thing. I know that conservatives here have the mistaken idea that Europe's "conservative" closely matches theirs. It doesn't. Europe's version of conservatism more closely matches our liberalism. France is a great example. U.S. cons were hooting and amen'ing all over the place, which made them look extremely silly. Our version of conservatism looks more like facism to them. Don't take my word for it, talk to a World Politics professor.

you are correct,
and the last time you made a turn from left to right we had to send the greatest army ever created to stomp on your heads.
Glad to hear that you think America is great and that we rock.
But..
We Americans have not changed our opinion of euro trash. Since you are so darned educated, I'm sure you know what we think of your opinion and where you can shove it.
