No. That logic is terrible. The lowest is in SC at about $2.83.
Just becuase one station is super high doesn't mean their will be an equal balance of numbers. For example.
5,5,4,5,10, Average is 5.8. That is 4.2 away from the high. However their is not a 1.6, which is the average minus the difference between the average and the high, like you used to prove that somewhere their must be $2.05 gas. This is basic math and the law of the mean (average). That is the best way to think of gas prices in this country. Most are floating around one point, while some stations (usually in the Loop in Chicago or similar places) are much higher b/c of taxes.
Also, on CNN they reported that the Chicago area has the highest average gas prices out of the major metro areas in the country. The area has high gas and property taxes which drive up the prices.

Some stores in small towns run specials on certain days of the week to draw customers (like a sale). For instance one I know of is if u filled up your tank at the store on a Saturday you got double the gas with the same price. Not sure if this is everywhere but at that rate of discount averaged it it could be as low as that when a sale like that is done. There was always a long wait at that store on its special rates day... The profit was made by attracting so so many people to the store on that day that it justified its gas losses by other items that customers bought while stoppin in their store. Not sure if that is a contributing factor but it is 3.20 here in NC. Gas is Gas it should not vary in prices if u ask me People can lower and raise the price at will and make a huge profit in a short amount of time. Just because we live in different areas shouldnt mean one of us can be paying 50 cent more a gallon. Maby we should set the price like a postal stamp and all these countries including us will stop fighting wars over it.

in your example you only used 4 places. try it with 100 cities with gas at $3.19 a gallon and factor in the high of $4.33 and yours of $3.59. Now the average would be $3.21. $326.92/102= $3.205
You need a larger sample group then just 4 cities.

Here in this region, gas is kinda high. In Kotzebue, Alaska it is 5.50/gal and in some villages it is about 7.00 or more/ gal. It is high in some villages because a fuel barge cannot reach the village and has to be flown in by a fuel plane from Fairbanks.
