this movie called the RED BALLON when we were in elementry? I do! I was just thinking about that movie right NOW!

watched it in 1st grade and in 10Th grade French class (Le ballon rouge)
The thirty-four minute film (which has sound but virtually no dialog) is set in Ménilmontant, Paris, and follows the adventures of a young boy, (played by Lamorisse's son, Pascal), who finds a large red balloon. The balloon has a mind and will of its own, following Pascal wherever he goes, floating outside his bedroom (as Pascal's mother won't allow it in the house). In their wanderings around Paris, Pascal and the balloon encounter a gang of bullies, but tragedy is replaced by a magically happy ending.

Do they still show that movie in elementary schools today? I remember seeing it when I was in elementary school in the early 70's and it seemed a little trippy to me even at 7 or 8. This is the one that had no talking - just a boy, a red balloon and background music. I think the boy lived in Paris or some French town because all the signs were in French.

Yes, the ballon went everywhere. That was soo many years ago. I don't remeber it too well but i remember watching and it.
