no way! i think you shouldn't feel ashamed of anything. it is your choice to be liberal. all the people who said yes: are you stupid? would you be ashamed of something you are? sorry but im a little apalled at the ignorance of all these people right now.
western democracies need to be reformed. i mean, like the western civilization is so great. it relies on oppressing other cultures, killing, plundering from indians and slaves then to sweatshop workers for nike now. oh yeah, and it's practically destroyed the climate with its wastefulness. racism and crime are big issues. people are stressed and unhappy. yup this is god's way all right... bravo conservatism
i sure hope it is a passing fad!!!

First, liberalism has only resently been associated with the Democrats. Democrats up until about 50 years ago were more like the Republicans of today. Both sides were concervative. I can't go into a lot of detail about how things changed and how the liberal mind set is now the main of the Democrat party.
In order to even begin to get a clear perspective of what is true or the best path to follow, etc. you must be able to clear your mind of all bias. If you WANT to think a certain way, you can eventually find someone to agree with you. This is one way liberals go about convincing others. If enough people say it or scream it, and the say it repeatedly over a long period of time, more people will fall into that belief, because that's all they hear.
I would recommend clearing your mind and doing your research. Stay away from the extremist websites and news editorials. Research information; books, essays, editorials, etc. of people that actually have experience in those matters. Don't be quick to judge. Listen to all points of view. If you do this with an open mind, you will be able to call yourself a free thinker and actually may come up with ideas that are 'progressive'. Unfortunately, most liberals listen to only one side, the side they want to believe that tells them what they want to hear. They are told by others that 'think' the same, what to believe and think and they, in turn, repeat what they hear. Even liberals know, if they dissagree with their fellow liberals, they will be put down, and verbaly and imotionally attacked by their peers. Any other ideas are viewed as being wrong and will be attacked in some way. Unfortunately, this does not become 'free thought'. Look up what groups enforce this type of thinking. There was several very famous groups throughout recent history.
My advise is to do your research on the topics you are concerned with and make your own decisions. Be open to new ideas and don't let others dictate what you think.

Actually as you get older and graduate high school and after and have the responsibility of life and family....must liberals move away of their coffee shop grandiose ideals....most of it comes when you see your pay check going to entitlement programs that do not help your family but help keep up a nanny state.
With the liberal congress with a 29% approval rating just barley after an election shows there is no passing fad...Our fore fathers were far more to the right than you may want to believe.....

No, being a liberal is something to be proud of. Never be ashamed of being one of the light bringers! One could only hope that conservatism could only be a passing fad, but it is with great sadness that I have to say that those that hold those old, stale, myopic, un-evolved values, will not easily let go of them. In your politics, yes (but so should many conservatives).
In your life, no, there's nothing wrong with being a little idealistic when it's only yourself you're setting up for disapointment.
'Neo' conservatism is almost a contradiction in terms, and the 'neo' label should never be stuck to anything for too long. Conservatism, OTOH, is more often crticised for being archaic than for being a 'fad.'

I'm a little confused. Maybe you have the two mixed up. Conservative values are what this country was founded on - protecting our borders, every man supporting himself, no govt handouts for lazy people. Only in the past few decades has liberalism begun to take hold of many Americans. Only in the past few decades has it started to swing this country in a dramatically different direction than it has always been headed in. Liberals want more welfare, more govt, more socialist programs, all of which go directly against the principles of this country.
So in short, YES, you should be very ashamed of yourself and everyone who agrees with you.

Yes. The Liberalism you describe doesn't resemble any modern day Liberal. Liberals used to stand for Freedom. Now they want to legislate your entire life AFTER they take all your money, which is not your money anyway. They decide what you can keep. Don't believe me, don't pay taxes and see what happens.
You couldn't be more wrong about Conservatism. It traces it roots to England's Burke back in the 18th century. It was a reactionary movement started in response to the ridiculous extreme the French went to during their Revolution. He liked America's revolution because it did not seek to remove all form of British influence.
The modern movement has been around for quite some time with William F. Buckley, Ronald Reagan, Goldwater, etc., and as long as Liberals continue to act irresponsibly Rush and crowd will be around a long time. In fact, Conservatism is getting stronger!
Humanism has reborn itself into a narcissistic abyss.

I don't think conservatism is a passing fad just like I don't think you need to be ashamed of your liberalism. as long as your beliefs and opinions are well thought out. You are entitled to your opinion.

You should be ashamed that you are a modern day liberal, meaning that you:
- believe in government handouts.
- donate less of *YOUR OWN* money to charity than conservatives
- believe in the destruction of innocent human life in a mother's womb.
- are for employment, but against employers
- are not willing to fight for the safety of your own nation
- have the false notion that social security, at 1.2 percent annually, is a good investment.
- hate guns, and deny the second amendment
- hate Jews and Christians (this is not unique to liberals, but is *YOUR* view, and you should be ashamed).
