I'm trying to find any research, surveys, etc., done on this topic. I've been searching the Internet all afternoon with no luck. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

In case I wasn't clear, I'm looking for stats on what boomers as a GROUP are doing in the area of relocation after retirement. I'm not looking to relocate myself...at least not yet.

Thanks again.

Try aarp.com or money magazine which often have archived articles on where to retire and best places to live. Mexico is quite popular as it is very inexpensive and has many ex-pat communities.

On the other hand, if you move too far from friends and family you may want to reconsider that cross country relocation. At the end of the day, they are what truly make a home, not an exotic location.

Here is how I determined where I'm going, I am retiring May 31, 2007.

No relatives left in Michigan (where I live). Was offered a job, had to eat, so I moved back here., Plus I hate six months bitter winter.
Can't stand Florida (where all my siblings and other relatives live)
Love Arizona (lived there 16 years), all my kids are gone.
California to expensive and has earthquakes (lived there two years, one son near San Francisco).
So Colorado Springs here I come (son, daughter-in-law and grand daughters).
Have one son in Austin, TX (terrible humidity, I know no one else).
So that is how I scientifically picked Colorado Springs.

be careful what you prefer for, as i would not prefer a completely controlled government on absolutely everyone. while one occasion holds finished administration, the rustic will go through. So i'm hoping you're saving vast time to your retirement as you may by no ability see one.
