yes I too, try to fix it first, and you can learn from it.

Depending on what you paid for the microwave, the fix could be more than the replacement. If it is an inexpensive microwave, buy another. Otherwise, call Sears or some other appliance repairman, find out what is wrong and if it can be fixed. You didn't say what is broken on your microwave. Did it just stop working or did someone put something in it they shouldn't have?

Depends. More and more things are getting both cheaper to buy and harder to fix, so the percentage I try to deal with has decreased over the years. But if it is something that I CAN fix, I will do so.

I always try to fix it first. Why buy another if it can be fixed? And at least this way, I can say I tried.....

I try to fix them. Unless I break wind then I just laugh. Can't fix that. Once it is out it is out. Of course I blame it on my kids or the dog.

I try to fix things, if I know how to, and if I don't, I try to get help. But it depends on how important to me is the thing I broke and since when I have it.

I fix things when I can to reduce the amount of trash my household produces, and I re-use anything that can be re-used. All our worn-out clothes and raggy towels become cleaning rags, for instance.

Unfortunately, it's harder and harder to find people who know how to repair things like lamps and microwaves and who do it at a reasonable price. In my town, there used to be someone who'd rewire a lamp for $20. He has retired, and now there's only an overpriced fancy lamp shop that overcharges wildly for the same service, making it cheaper to replace a lamp here than to fix it.

I try to fix it, but I usually end up making it worse. I like to imagine that I know what I'm doing, then reality hits when it suddenly blows up in my face goes flying all over the room.
