Can you apply right after getting a master's degree? Does the funding help if you choose to work as a research assistant?

A full time PhD would typically be 3 - 4 years full-time, up to 7 part-time.

You can apply right after a Masters.

Funding is always good. I'm not sure I understand this part of the question.

PhDs in the UK aren't much different from those in any English Speaking countries (US, Canada, Australia). In the sciences, a PhD usually takes four or five years. For the arts, it often takes a year or two longer.

You can apply to PhD programs with an undergraduate degree or a master's degree. The better schools will give aid to their PhD students in the form of a fellowship, teaching assistantship or research assistantship. These usually cover tuition, fees and grant a large enough stipend to cover room and board.
