Ohm's Law to the rescue!

I = E/R (Current = voltage / resistance)

I = 4 volts / 12 ohms

I = 1/3 of an amp

The ratio of voltage V to current I is resistance R

R=V/I

I =V/R=4.0/12=1/3=0.333 ampere

The current through the resistor is 0.333 ampere
