It is usually a reference given to a person who is wise beyond their years. They are in a contemporary body while posessing a demeanor which is mature, more logical, ethical, moral and exemplifying a mannerly way about them. Most people today are in a hurry, have limited attentions, are rude, have no conscience and often lack a sense of right and wrong.
Anyone calling you an old soul is paying you an extremely high compliment.

It's usually said to someone who acts older than their chronological age or seems to prefer or relate to things that are of an older generation. It's usually a compliment (as in WOW, you are very mature for your age) but sometimes it's seen as a negative (wow, you are only 25...but you act like a 45 year old).

i really dont either so i'll tell you what i think it means, like an older person who has been around for a long time, but i have heard people say it to younger people too, i think that it means that they might have views on things the way older people think of it, not younger people, i dont know though i could be WAY wrong, thats just what i think of it

I think it describes the fact that you seem wise beyond your years - that your soul is older than you maybe know or think.....
