My friend has been offered a Cartier watch, with diamonds, at a very low price. One like it on EBAY sells for over $4,000. Is there any way of knowing if the watch he has been offered is a fake.
No guesses, please.

you can tell if there fake because do you know how on cheaper watches how you can see the sec. hand move, and then stop? well, on real cartier watches, the sec. and literally never stops--or appears to you that it stops.

usually if its cheap and i mean cheap thats a hint its not real. but if you maybe think you really ran into a good deal, check the back . If it says cartier in the same scribe it has on their website, i guess you could check thats a good bet. Also fake watches that are replicating a real usually dont look the exact same as the real one, they just use that watch as a mold. so look on ebay or the cartier site to inspect the real version of the watch. if its the exact same..good chance its real aswell. You could also pay the guy lets say 25 bucks to get a statment from a jeweller saying its real

It is hard to tell sometimes. I would suggest going to a specialty high-end watch retailer and ask them. Better yet if you have an actually Cartier store near you, then I would go and ask them.

No one offers that which is expensive for 'a good price' unless it was arrived at at no cost......as in fake or stolen.
The old, old sayings go:
A fool & their money are soon parted.
If it sounds too good to be true....it probably is.
