Absolutely. Ron Paul challenges the conventional wisdom held by both parties that Big Government is good - and that U.S. interventionism in the name of "fighting terrorism" (even when the terrorism is a response to our historical interventionism) is good policy. The news organizations just don't know how to process this sort of thinking - even though it's precisely what it says in our Constitution - and validated by history.

Ron Paul is a conservative and a patriot.

He is NOT a populist. Populism is anti-elitism. Many of the changes he advocates would remove protective/safety-net functions of the federal government - which most populists would oppose. He is a libertarian - you might even call him an old-school Republican - pro states rights, pro individual liberty, pro free markets, pro limited government (fiscally responsible), and anti interventionist.

YES! This phenomenon is known as "Populism", and the leaders who appeal directly to the interests of the vast majority of middle- and working-class people are called "Populists". Populists are almost always unpopular with "Big Media". After all, "Big Media" is just another arm of "Big Business", and "Big Brother..."
