appreciate the bad? Or just understand that it exists?
I mean, i dont' appreciate anything about cancer, but I certainly appreciate not having it... something i couldn't fully do if i didn't know of or understand that cancer exists...

You've certainly generated some resistance.

There is much to appreciate about cancer -- certainly not the pain. Cancer requires that we slow down our lives. Cancer requires that we reassess our priorities in life. Cancer requires that we focus our shortened time and energy on those things which truly matter to us and in our lives. Cancer requires us to "stop and smell the roses", until faced with your impending death, there are so many things in life that likely pass you by.

Cancer forces us to appreciate what we could be greatful for such as highly trained staff, medicine, corporations, and other things that lead to the care and treatment of the patient.

Cancer also forces to revisit the lives that we have chosen and to make new choices for what is left of the future.

I can also appreciate the power that such a small cell can have in the life of being such as ourselves. One tiny cell, after all can mean the difference between life and death.

Without the bad, there would be no good, because what we call "good" would just be the standard. It's like if everybody loved everbody else completely genuinely all the time, then it would mean nothing to be truly loved by someone else. It's the ability to hate that makes the choice to love so meaningful.

I'm not so sure we appreciate bad...just it takes both sides for us to appreciate the good. We tend to take for granted that which we've never had to do without.

no, to appreciate something we need a binary to base it off of.

i can't appreciate having money without never not having it.

i can be thankful for it, but i will never truly appreciate it unless i know what it's like to be broke.

of course it's possible, that is simply a biased opinion, or appreciation as it were. because you enjoy the feel of the sun on your body doesn't mean you have to enjoy stargazing at night, whatever you like is what you like.
