A single is when a hitter hits the ball but is only able to reach first base.
A double is when a hitter hits the ball and is able to reach second base without being tagged.
A triple is when a hitter hits the bell and can go all the way to third base.
An inside the park homerun is when a hitter hits the ball and the ball stays in the playing field and he is able to round all the bases.

well um, i single is only hit for enough for a runner to get to first base. a double is hit farther usually, as in a gap between the outfielders and the runner can take second. a triple is a ball hit well enough that the runner takes 3rd. and a homer is typically out of the park.

BUT, the difference in these types of hits is a scorers decision. sometimes a hit where the runner winds up on 2nd will be scored a single and a error. AND keep in mind that what a slow runner gets a single on, may be a double for a fast runner. see jose reyes ss mets for a example of this. he gets triples out of hits that thome may not get to second on.

A single is a hit in which you make it only to first base unless an error gave you an opportunity to make it on the same play. A double is a hit in which make it safely to second base on that play

A single is a base hit where you reach first base and a double is when you make it to second base on the hit.

Single reaches only first base. Double a batter reaches second. A ground rule double is when the ball bounces on the ground and then hops over the fence.

About 90 feet.

A single gets you to first base, a double to second. Getting a double usually means you hit the ball deep into the outfield and that the outfielder has to spend a bit longer chasing it down, thus giving you enough time to run that extra 90' to second base.

A single Is when the runner gets on first base. Of the 4 bases a double would put the runner in SCORING POSITION. SCORING POSITION is when a base hit will knock in a runner. The double is the better hit.

on a single you reach first base safely. A double requires that you safely reach second base in the same play that you hit the ball without an error on the play.
