I feel a lot more threatened to know that the president of my supposedly democratic country once said he'd like things a lot better if it were a dictatorship--and everyone thought he was joking! In fact that is what is happening, since the will of the people no longer has any effect on the decisions of the leaders. Propaganda about terrorism is merely one of the tools that has been used to keep us from noticing as our freedom of dissent is being taken away.

Terrorism really is little more than a /threat/. It's an attempt to induce fear, to intimidate someone into making concessions. Terrorism is a tactic used by movements hostile to the US, few Americans are actually afraid of being the victim of a terrorist attack - though many were justifiably outraged by 9/11. If the government is trying to use that as a 'distraction' to silence dissent, it has been singularly unsuccessful, as opposition to the war, as well as the administration, is tremendously vocal and well-organized.
The factions in question are not trying to stop the violence in thier own countries - they are trying to gain political power /through/ violence, including terrorism, assassination, and, where they're strong enough, open civil war.
Terrorists are terrible people, certainly - they are willing to murder innocents and random in the slight hope that, though it hasn't much worked in the last 60 years, it'll get them what they want. Many terrorists are fanatical muslims, so could hardly be described as 'infidels.' They also typically have a level of sophistication that belies the label 'savage.'

Terrorism. To incite terror. Do you feel the need to be terrified all the time? Then go watch a good horror flick. Personally I'd rather not have my wits scared out of me by wondering which of the many chemical plants within 3 miles of my house will be blown up and the fumes kill all my neighbors and myself.
Terrorism is a bad thing. That is the most simple way I can put it. It is bad.
When the terrorists took airplanes and put them through high-rise buildings they were thinking of all the fear they would put on the great nation we all live in. But, what happened? They did not incite riots... they banded together a nation of strong wills. Those of us who refuse to lie down because we have been taught to be strong. We were not trained as they were to follow blindly without our own minds, our own thoughts.
You have your mind, your thoughts. What do you think? Is being afraid to do or say anything because someone may hear you a good thing? Is locking yourself inside at dusk because you might get shot by the military a good thing?
They do not want to stop war, pain, rape, and killing, they want to control it so they are the only ones allowed to do it.
Terrorists are followers. Someone told them to do something and they blindly follow the hate of a single individual.

To satisfy your curiosity... yes terrorism is a threat, just ask the familiies of the 9/11 victims. War, is inevitable and a neccesary evil to fight terrorism. If terrorism is a "distraction to keep the taxpayers trembling and silent..." then it's done a poor job. It seems to me many have forgotten the lessons 9/11 should have taught us. Finally, yes terrorists are savage, barbaric, extremists, mental cases who understand only the language of violence. Anything else? Still curious?

Well first of all you got the Infidel part wrong, the terrorists are acting in the name of Allah and WE are the Infidels, not the terrorists according to Islam. Next, I will assume that you haven't heard the intent of the Islamic Terrorists! They won't be happy until they kill or convert all the infidels in the name of Allah. The list of terror attacks goes on and on but the ones that affected the US the most were probably the WTC attack, the US embassies in Africa, the attack on the USS Cole, The attack on the Marine Barracks in Saudi Arabia and I'm sure I'm missing a few, but you'll notice that those had nothing to do with us being in "their countries", it had to do with attacking the United States. As far as "are they savages?". Well, lets see, cutting off the heads of civilian reporters and civilian contractors on TV, ya pretty savage, bombing market places full of civilians, ya, pretty savage. Setting off IEDs and killing civilians, ya pretty savage, destroying Mosques while worship service is in progress killing lots of civilians, ya pretty savage. Are we creating a problem in the middle east?; you bet we are! we're supporting a democratic form of government that would be a stabilizing force in the area and help prevent the attempt of Syria and Iran to wipe Israel off the face of the map, as they have sworn to do.

Oh, just a second...let me check with the 3 families I know who lost loved ones on 9-11.
Uhhhhhhhhhh YES, terrorism is a threat. Terrorism is FAR worse than warfare, because it involves attacking the innocent, the unwary and the civilians primarily. It's a warfare tactic of the cowardly and the evil. It's entire purpose is to inflict terror into a population. It's almost animalistic in it's savagery against the most helpless of society...there are no rules of engagement---everything goes. I believe terrorists are rabid dogs who deserve nothing less than being put to death before they cause more death.

just curious, if there was no war, would you then be un-silenced? what would you do to improve the tax system, besides belly-aching about how messed up it is.
last time i checked the terror threat to america was not to stop killing, raping and pain in their country. the terrorists we are facing think they have a mandate from god to kill people not of their religion. is that healthy?

The terrorists don't want to stop war, pain, rape, etc. They use this conflict the same way our leaders do: to consolidate power and control the ignorant masses.
If you don't think our fears are being exploited, then why haven't cars been outlawed yet? More Americans are killed in car crashes in a single day than have been killed by terrorists in a decade.

Terrorists do cause war, pain, killing in their countries and all over the globe. The left will care only when terrorists attack polar bears with suicide sleds.
