It's the nature of humans to want the latest thing! And that is the major reason why I train myself to the contrary. It's easy to fall into that mode so I make it a point not to. I do my best to get what I need and not what I want or think that I do. Of course this does not mean that I'm going to choose the worst of anything, it just means that I won't choose the most extravagant.
A good example is something as simple as a cell phone. It boggles my mind why people would choose phones with all these features that aren't necessary. For me, as long as I can pick it up and make and answer a call, that's fine by me. But of course that's just me and of course it's gotta look good though, doesn't mean i'll choose the ugliest cheapest phone but I sure don't need a camera, nor do I need streaming videos and all that stuff.

You want your money's worth don't you? You want to feel like you're getting a good deal even those features don't matter to you?
I want to charge you $100 for software X. One version has 5 features. The other has 101 features. Which do you think that you would buy. Which is the "BETTER" deal.
Marketers take advantage of this aspect of human nature -- well, at least nature for some.

because they advertise that we are getting a discount or a good price for all of the features. Americans cant refuse a discount, even if it really isnt one. They want to "stick it to the man" and that is their way of doing it, little do they know, they are really "sticking it to themselves." In other countries they dont do these type of things. Oh yes, and we like being able to say we have the best version.

It's trickery of the mind. More features suggests more choice which suggests more freedom and power to control a device.
The fact it's never used appropriately is irrelevant. Desiring a square to fit into a trianglular hole is like looking for the whisky when all you need is a big hug.

We have a desire and a want of things we dont have even if we wont use them. Just to say we have it. Why does a retired couple in their mid. 60's build a 2 story house with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths?? Just because they can thats why. A lot of people try to impress other people when its really not necessary.

I figure it's because man is unsatiable. It's in our nature to never feel completely whole and satisfied with what we have. We always have to progress in one way or another or we find ourselves feeling uneasy. Man's perpetual unfulfillment will be what ends the whole damn race eventually.... in my opinion that is.
