It seemed that little girls were getting tired of the Ken and Barbie relationship as in the marketing of the toy world. Mattel hoped to infuse their product line with more create ideas to create a greater demand of product which would increase profits. They had not anticipated the consequences of doing so as it would impact older loyal consumers. These buyers care about this imaginary relationship deeply. Thus, the two had to be reunited later to satisfy this consumer base that had given the company its profits over the decades.
