It was the planet venus, if you had a telescope you'd be able to see the venus is at 60% or rather it looked just like the moon does just after it becomes half moon but not yet a 3/4th's moon. Venus by the way is the second brightest object in the night sky, surpassed only by the moon. The Third Brightest is the Planet Jupiter, and you can see that in the opposite direction of or venus, right now it's rising at about 10:30 PM but if you live near hills or in a urban area you might not see it till 11:30 or so.

Yes, you can still see Venus. It just isn't so close to the Moon any more. You could have seen Venus any evening for the last few months and you can see it for many more weeks before it moves into the glare of the Sun, but only on 5-19 was it really close to the Moon.

If it was near the moon, it was Venus. On 5/19 my girlfriend and I happened to be outside right at sunset. It was still light enough that the stars weren't visible yet, but the moon and Venus were. Quite a sight!

Venus has been bright and obvious in the evening sky for months, it did appear close to the crescent moon on 5/19 but it will be close to the same spot in the sky for a few weeks more before it dims a bit, and its been in that area of the sky for months already.

Yes it's Venus, Venus takes a longer to move out of the way -- a few weeks or months.

well, venus is the 3rd brightest object in the sky, it is near the moon lately. there are a lot of planets visible to the naked eye, so its hard to say, especially without knowing which direction you were looking and at what time.

It was Venus. It didn't get all that far away from the moon in one day. Still in the southwest in the early evening.
But if you are talking about after midnight in the south, that's Jupiter. (That is, if you're in the northern hemisphere.)

Without knowing exactly what you saw, it is had to tell, but I would venture you have seen Venus and are the 1436th person to ask about it in the last few days...
