A little of both, but I hope in my case that I have my own opinions far more often. In terms of letting others tell me what to think, sometimes you have to trust them for lack of complete information. For example, I am certainly not an automobile mechanic, so unless it is a case where I sense the repair shop is trying to generate unnecessary repairs, I usually accept what they tell me.

However, on the larger issues that you refer to, I like to think that my opinions are my own. I can look back into my past and see how my thinking was a result of what others had shaped in my mind. That's not necessarily a bad thing as much of the time authority figures such as parents, teachers, and clergy offer good advice that stays with a person for their whole lives. But I feel that it is a person's responsibility to evaluate their thoughts, at least a few times, to see if they are thoughts consistent with their perception of reality. I consider that process to be part of growing up, and I hope that I've done that.

I listen to what others have to say, and I respect that they have opinions, but I form my own opinions using my own judgements. People show me a different ways of thinking. Sometimes I embrace them, sometimes I discard them.

Only when I was a very young woman did I let others think for me! But, when I matured, I thought for myself and stood my ground to do so!!

I'm ferocious about making up my own mind. I may agree with what some people may think, but I got there on my own.

If I let people tell me what to think, I'd get a lot more thumbs up then I do!
