there are several ways you can do this but it seems to me it is urgent? anyway, since you did not ask, i would just like to remind you that once you have wipe your hard drive there is no way of getting it back so do not forget to BACK UP it is very important.
i'll be brief but concise here, i use two ways of wiping the hard drive,
one is formatting it, and the other is repartitioning it.
please take note that the hard drive has a torque or a limit on how many times it can do this, on how many number of times i dont know but they do break after some numbers. so be very careful.
formatting, since you are formatting i believe you will reinstall your OS? what is your OS then? i'll assume windows XP,
boot your pc from cd-rom, by default they do, if they do not, then you have to configure the cmos settings they actually reside in the advance setting the boot priority option.
then restart, load and allow the pc to boot on the cd rom
after several loading you will then be directed to a page wherein it ask you where it should install the windows package, below you will find options, select d for delete partition then L for confirmation and enter for execution, after that the drive would then become unpartitioned from here you can create your partition by pressing c then selecting the size of the partition then pressing enter to install your operating system to a fresh state.
secondly, repartitioning, (low level procedure)
tools needed --- Ms - Dos floppy boot disk, and fdisk
here, instead of booting from cd rom boot from floppy.
insert your ms-dos disk then restart,
its up to you to choose from startup with cdrom support or without cdrom support.
then after loading msdos environment, insert your disk which contains fdisk.
type from the prompt fdisk then enter, then follow on the instructions.
i suggest you do the first option as it does not require so much user interaction. which means lesser error.
you can also try many different disk managers most probably partition magic but i believe they require a more advanced actions from the user
goodluck!!!

You need your original Windows installation CD. If you don't have that, your SOL.
Configure your bios to boot off first the C:\ , if not present then boot off the CD drive. You access the boot configuration when the system is booting up - probably hit F2 - it will say which F key to hit when the system is booting, before the Windows flash screen. You will have to navigate the bios setup on your own, there is no standard way they are layed out.
Go to the command line and type "format c: /s"
That will wipe the hard drive back to nothing. Boot off the Windows CD and follow the directions.

Boot with your Windows CD or Recovery Disk in the CD drive
Let it start the Windows Install
After you do the F8 to agree, you will be asked about partitioning and formatting the drive
Format the drive using NTFS. That will wipe everything
Let the setup continue from there....

If you wish you wipe your hard drive and start over with a clean installation of XP, just put your XP disk in the cd drive and restart your machine. Let XP load until it comes to the page were it asks if you want to install XP, choose to remove the partition. Follow the instructions on removing and creating the primary partition, then format that partition and then continue with the XP installation. This will put a clean copy of XP on your system.
If you have a brand name computer, then you would want to use the "Restore" disk that came with your comuter. It will bring your system back to "box" fresh.

Just boot from the OS cd. Then tell it to install, at the second prompt use the D delete option to remove the original partition. Then create a new partition and load to this. Make sure you have the drivers for all your hardware before you do this.

Insert your living house windows XP CD and reboot your pc. A blue show will arise. you will could desire to delete all partitions, create and format a sparkling partition, and then installation XP on that partition. i do no longer think of uninstalling/installation deletes the malware. I agree so you might use safemode to verify and eliminate viruses.

If you want to start over with everything I would buy a new one if I were you, formating doesn't 100% clean it.
