It really depends on (1) how much money, and (2) the type of business.

If you only need a few thousand dollars, try a line or credit, or borrow from a friend or relative. If you're going to need more than that and will have business collateral, you might try an SBA loan. If you need a few hundred thousand, you will need to find an angel investor. For a million or more, you'll probably need a venture capitalist.

Put together a business plan. Go to a local bank and apply through them. If it's truly innovaive, start the company this way then eventually apply for venture capital. Tough to get though.
