I see so much name calling like "neocons" "libs" (I guess that means liberals from the context most of the time but it could also mean libertarians) "Cons" and "Liberals". The more you get to know me the more you will see that it is impossible to put a label on me. Why? because I think for myself. People especially within the Republican party seem to want to assume that I am conservative because I love God and His Son Jesus Christ and I have dedicated a lot of my time fighting for 2nd Amendment issues and supporting the postions of Gun Owners of America Inc and the NRA. But I also have agonized over this situation in Iraq and wish I had been more out spoken about it from the start. I liked Howard Deans opposition to the war in early 04 but was let down by the Democrats when they nominated Kerry instead who was for it before he was against it. I know some lesbian women who I think are good people. I have been treated respectfully by homosexuals. I believe a woman should have a right t

to choose when it comes to her body, her life, her pregnancy. Thought of myself as Libertarian for many years but then I strongly supported an anti smoking ordinance in my city and I am so against drunk driving that I would ban alcohol from the face of the earth if I could-not exactly the "Libertarian" position. What am I? An Independent thinker. Am I the lone ranger here in yahoo answers?

I do not condone homosexuality, in fact I supported the Federal Marriage Amendment to define marriage as "only between one man and one woman". I do think that homosexuals and lesbians need God's deliverance in their lives. Romans 1 makes it clear that it violates God's Word and standards for life and living. But then so does idolatry. People pray to Mary the so called "mother of God" well guess what? God does NOT have a mother. God was in the beginning with no mother involed. God is Spirit and God was never born. Jesus Christ WAS born of Mary. To worship Jesus as God is idolatry. So idolaters who worship Jesus and pray to Mary need God's deliverance too so there! With regards to abortion (oh hell why did I even mention abortion?) wow...where do I start? "Abortion should be legal but rare." I forget who said that but I like that quote.
By the way Christianity is NOT a religion but rather a way of a Father with his children (Romans 10:9). I am NOT a religious person.

No, you are not and I know exactly what you are saying. All of these labels and people putting each other down because they have different views than themselves. I have also noticed a lot of people can not explain their position originally, it is some rhetoric that they've heard or read somewhere. I wish for once in 2008 everybody would study who the candidates are and what they are saying and make up their own minds and dare to vote different than their church, their mother, their father, their brothers, their sisters. Stand up and be an individual and make your own informed decision.

You have a situation far less worse than we do in the U.K. Mr Blair (our Prime Minister) has resigned and in his place we will have yet another Scottish man, this to you may seem incomprehensible but how would you like a Canadian or Mexican President? That is how it seems to us English. We have had numbers of Scottish leaders but never have the Scottish had an English leader no matter what they tell you. Our Kings and Queens are shared and that is a good thing but National politics should be left to the Nations themselves. For example the Scottish M.S.P.s not only have a vote in their parliament but also in ours, the Members of the Welsh Assembly also have this right and no doubt the members of the Interim Government of Northern Ireland will also have this right. Do you see how fair your politics are, your State votes for its own good etc in the U.K. if you live in England you vote but so does the rest of the U.K. but if you want to vote on the other countries in the U.K. you cannot.

Well you are all over the place with the question but I think I understand your basic meaning. I too have views that cannot be easily placed in one box. I would hope that most people do, but I am not easily persuaded that that is the case. The media tries to put everyone into one box or another for their convenience, not for truthful representation of peoples' true beliefs and attitudes. This would be far too messy for easy transmission over the airwaves. I would encourarge everyone to take the time to develope their own viewpoints on issues and create their own worldview. It does take a little brainsweat but well worth the time and effort.

When we all get together for the big Atheist picnic we come up with ways to debunk religion, normally there are about 20 arguments, but by the end that's whittled down to 3 and we use those three until the next Atheist jamboree. This is what always happens when the religious trying to embarrass atheists, you always end up looking ridiculous, because your not used to thinking things through rationally.

I agree most of what you said... I live in a state considered most to be either in the 'bible belt' or 'in the country w/horses and cows'... But, irregardless, labels, while convenient for purposes of communication, really don't tell much about the individual as it does about the 'mob' or 'group'.. So, while I live in 'the country' I'm CITY all the way, (but, I'm not 'metro').. It is sometimes alot harder, and takes alot more energy to think 'outside the box'.. but I encourage and support anyone whom thinks outside their own 'bubble' and doesn't mind going 'against the grain' when they feel like it.. Rock on!

to chose ? me too. The bureaucratic machine in DC leaves alot to be desired. I have been saying for years we need a serious third party. Not independents, green, libertarian....... I was thinking along the lines of "Demo-Pubs". I would like to be the first to run in that party, but I can get any serious backing. DC is sure screwed up that's for sure. Republicans & democrats alike, they re out for themselves pure and simple. A dollar dont mean a thingh to any of them, because they have so much. Im totally sick of being robbed in the name of 'gov't'

If you are indeed a free thinker, you realize already that neither a republican nor democrat president is going to try to fix this country. Both parties have shaped our government in a way that serves only to keep them in power.
If more independent thinkers out there put their money where their mouths are, they'd stop electing and re-electing these clowns and start voting for third-party candidates.

I think the majority of us that actually think differ from both parties. I don't see the correlation between Christianity and Republicans though. I agree with what they think on many issues, the difference is that I understand that they are unrealistic in expecting the world to work that way.
I am more in line with Dems, however, their thinking is often as flawed as the Cons. Actually, it is more flawed in many cases but I think as a minority they seem to at least understand that there are minorities and a lower class in our country.
