For 26 years old your very perceptive and correct. I am 46 and remember when things were better. My feeling is that we have let too many socialist views creep into our society which are in conflict with the constitution. Very few people vote so a few people tell the rest of us what to do, what to say, etc. We have all but killed religion in this country by a few radical people and the rest of us could care less.
Your right we have done this to ourselves. Now how do we get out of it. One all those crooks in Washington need to go. Americans need to speak up for themselves and not be afraid of these groups who use lawyers and activist judges to get what they want over the majority of the people. Federal Judges need term limits they are a huge problem.
We need to start instilling values and discipline in our society again. Bottom line Americans need to speak with one voice, it is the only way we can get our country back.

I have a feeling that the older generation of people you've spoken to are being unduly nostalgic and not remembering correctly how they felt about politicians in the "good old days." Believing that politicians are untrustworthy liars is as old as time. In fact, the most vicious diatribes ever heard in an American election was when Adams ran against Jefferson over 200 years ago!! Every generation has those politicians who seem trustworthy and those who don't. In fact, although most people tend to generically categorize politicians as liars, they nevertheless believe that the ones they personally voted for are indeed honest. Hmm, I wonder why?

i don't know what's going on. i think money talks and the White House goes to the highest bidder. But politics and corporate interests aside, there are citizens doing what they can to make the world a better place. The internet has magnified our ability to communicate. We should demand more from our leaders, but the truth isn't always pretty, and when politicians try telling the ugly truth, Americans will drop him and move on the the guy selling the prettiest lies.

I think a big difference is that technology gets us news more quickly and there is much more coverage of people in the spotlight than there used to be. I'm sure the controversy was out there before, but people just didn't hear about it. It could alos be that it wasn't as bad back then, people in power were not so "me" oriented. I do believe it probably a combination of the two. I do think we need to elect officials who are more compassionate to the citizens and less worried about their bottom line.

The people of the last generation that felt they could trust thier government are at least 62 years old, today.
Your generation contitutes what little hope America may have. If you can stop falling for divisive politics, media hype, and hate-America agendas...

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with your question/comment. When humans figured out that they can have more by being powerful and influential the decline of humanity was born. Now everybody lies and deceit to acquire more power and money.
