It depends on what type of hardware are you looking for.

Look at your motherboard manual or open your case to find the motherboard model number. You can also use some types of software (try SiSoft Sandra - it is usually free) to tell you what hardware you have and what upgrades are suggested.

When buying, my favorites are:

www.zipzoomfly.com

If you are only looking for the best price (regardless of service) look at pricewatch.com or use the rebates from local stores to get a great local price at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.
