Just my personal belief, but I don't like any job Period. Life is a very short thing and I would like to enjoy this life but any job that I have had has been mind numbingly horrible. I just don't like working. I am ok with waking up whenever I feel like and spending my days doing things I actually enjoy doing like hiking, playing guitar, and hanging around with common aquaintances. To my knowledge there are alot of people that hate their jobs, but continue to do the work everyday regardless of the mental toll it takes on them. I find this to be completely asinine. I don't want to live off of others tax money and be a welfare case, I just want to be free of any obligation to a work force that I find to be ill suited to my needs, and a complete drain on the lives of our society. I want everyone to just one week to not even think about going and contributing to your job, unless you find your work to be absolutley meaningful and fulfilling. In conclusion if you have not already guessed, my

It's because the people are wage slaves. You have taxes, bills, housing, ect... Rather than sharing the wealth and bettering society, the rich would rather keep everyone else working for them and making themselves richer.

There aren't many places that you can go and be free of these things. And in these places I'm sure they don't have computers and internet or cable TV.

It would be great to change it but it would take a lot of people and probably a lot of money. Since the rich are happy where they are (having wage slaves), I doubt you'll see any of them putting their finances into such a plan.

Even in an ideal situation there would still need to be a lot of people who work. But it wouldn't be a job market. You would do what you wanted and not even NEED to be payed for it.

You must realize a bit of reality here.... Since the dawn of civilized humankind, we have had to work to make society function. Even back in the simple times of trading your goods and services to get what you need in return, we've needed to work to function and survive as a species.

What would you do if all the farmers and ranchers quit working, and there was nobody to tend to the sources of food? What would you do if the civil servants that work in the treatment plants and waste disposal industry just quit one day, leaving you with no water or sewer, and garbage piling up in front of your house?

Utopia will never happen, we're nowhere close to being an advanced enough society to even attempt creating a utopian society, let alone anything even remotely close to one. I don't know what exactly you find to be a meaningful job by your defenition, but until you join the workforce and actually become a productive member of society, you're basically as much of a waste as a welfare case, I'm sorry to say.

I know how you feel.
Or at least i did until I figured out a way to make money doing what I enjoy doing.
Face it, we all need money.
I spent ten years in soul crushing poverty trying to make a living as a writer. It's not that I sucked, I feel I just didn't have enough life experience to really say anything new. I made some money but not enough to live on.
True I spent a lot of time doing what I wanted to do but something was missing.
Finally, I decided to join the workforce and be a contributing member of society. I got along well but was still unsatisfied.
Then a series of things happened, bad job plus the death of a loved one, all of which left me with an inheritance (A small one) that allowed me to change my life.
So now I'm back finishing school, majoring in advertising, which for all intents and purposes is a perfect fit for me as far as careers go.
I love what i'm doing, and realize now that that has been the point all along, getting paid to do what you love to do.
You may not have figured out where you fit in in the work world, but what I'm saying is that if you keep your options open, don't burn any bridges, and continue to educate yourself, you will discover a tolerable path to your very own pot of gold.

Okay because then no one would work. Seriously.

I work because I need someplace to live and food and clothes and a retirement fund so I can do whatever I want in 20 years.

You are talking about Utopia-won't work. Many people have written books based on that idea.

I am doing what I want to do right now. I like having money I like domesticity. I like knowing that when I am old and feeble I will have enough money for a private nurse.Don't you think if people didn't have to work that they would have figured it out a long time ago?

There is a lot of good points by people here but no matter what you well never have enough money to just live the life you want. unless you are rich. Some people that is on S.S. and SSI are drawing $600.00 a month try to live on that for a month. And see if you have anything left over to travel on go out and see things. It's a no winner in this life.

How can one think they cannot work? So how will you eat in this society of life unless you live in the country and have cattles for meat and grow your organic foods and well water. Still you will need help no matter what. The bible says if you do not work then you cannot eat. There are many reasons why a person should work and one must consider the odds.

A lot of them will say they’re ‘only in it for the money’. When you work for money, you can be financially independent, and have some control over your life.

Sometimes money truly is the only reason a person works. But most people have more substantial reasons for working. For example:

-They like to spend their days doing something they’re good at.
-They like being productive.
-Other people need their skills, and they feel obliged to supply them.

What if you didn’t work and you had every day to yourself? You could choose to go to the beach, watch television, go to the movies, go shopping, read books, visit friends, visit places of interest, go out for meals, play sports. This all sounds wonderful, but you’d need at least some money to do most of these things. Relaxing and doing what you please is great for a holiday, but after a while the pleasure can wear off and you can feel aimless and bored.

How do you think society would operate if nobody worked?

I'm a Deist.. so I don't mean to sound as if I am spouting religion to you.. but the old wives had much wisdom in their tales.

"Idle hands are the devils playground."

a hobby is fun because it is a hobby.. if it were your work most likely you would come to hate it. at the same time.. doing nothing causes more damage to mental stability than being in something you don't like... and lets be realistic... if people didn't have to do anything.. most of them wouldn't.

If everybody lives off the taxes who is going to pay the taxes for everybody to live off? I am a great believer in they saying, "If you don't work, you don't eat". There is no such thing in this life as a free meal.

Dude see thats the problem. THATS LIFE. Dont ask questions, just do it. We all have a role and a place, your not going to convince the whole world to quite thier job and then everyone will be happy. We all have work to do or you starve.
