I have soooo many dreams like everyone else, and one of my top ones is to become a hollywood producer and director...so...how do you do it? Go to college? If anyone knows...I'd like to hear your "slant" on it.

I have been "in the biz" for a bit and it's very hard to get to the top. I am a stuntman so i don't produce or anything like that. I have, however, seen many ppl try. It's a dirty dangerous world and most ppl don't realize it until their to deep. Your best bet is to try and make it on your own. Find a good script and talk to film students. find ppl to help u for cheap. that's the hard way. if you want to make it the easy way then take out a ten thousand dollar loan and throw parties. You will have to buy drugs of all kinds. Do this a few times to get in with the big crowds. If ppl tell you this isn't true then they haven't been to Hollywood and don't REALLY know. I have seen many of these parties and you would be shocked at the ppl their. Thank hard about this career choice. Don't get help from the big shots cause they will expect something in return. find eager kids fresh out of school to wright and shoot the film. This way takes a while but it's clean and honest :)

There are many different paths... yes you can go to school and you will learn all the technical things you should learn in film school which are really good things to know. However, at some point, hands on experience is really what you need. You can intern on sets and learn how things work or you can be a personal assistant to a producer and learn all the inner workings from the business side. There are also many low to no budget projects out there that would be happy to have some help, but they just couldn't pay you. Regardless of where you are, make friends and pay attention! You never know if the guy sweeping the floor in your production class or the girl bringing coffee to the script supervisor will be the next Steven Spielberg because he/she was paying attention!

The first thing to to complete understand what a producer does. since you said "Hollywood producer" I am going to assume you are referring to film and television.

The producer is usually the person who organizes and arranges and manages the project.

For example say someone wants to make Spiderman. The Executive Producer will help raise money, hire the talent and keep the film on budget and schedule. Thsi is a learn as you go job description so there are not really any gebnuine school programs for this. because of this you do not have to move to Hollywood. You want to know fuirst hand what being a producer is all about..you have to know how to rub two sticks together to make gold.

1. Team up with local fimmakers or playwrights. Try to either raise money for the production of teh film and/or play. be involved in casting decisions, location scouting, equipment remtals, forms, budgeting, scheduling etc...if you can do all those tings at the sam etime..you can be a producer..still sounds glamorous?
