Phillip Rivers overrated?

He is a good quarterback surrounded by great players. I think a lot of emphasis is placed on him, but I feel you can put a monkey in that system and it will win. Overrated YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure most of the league even knows about this guy. I mean, how many fans actually knows anything about him other than the fact that he plays with LT. Therefore I don't think he's overrated. I'm wont say he's underrated either, I'm just trying to be fair, saying his QB rating last year was 8th in the league, 4th in the AFC, managed the game well, didn't throw away any games and in fact threw some great TDs last year to win the game (see Pittsburgh, Cincy, Den). If anyone got rubbed the wrong way because he made the Pro Bowl over Brady, McNair, Big Ben, Pennington or whoever, then like I said, his QB rating was 4th in the AFC and his TD-INT ratio was 22-9, and 4 QBs make the Pro Bowl, so Rivers was the 4th guy. Very fair.

@ BoltAttic LOL! keep Dreaming! who's contained in the AFC Championship sport? no longer Rivers, He did not even make the playoffs and in 2008 he purely made it with an 8-8 record. He CHOKES in playoff video games. he's an outstanding statistical QB yet he's not a WINNER! The Chargers had the # a million protection this year and Rivers had an outstanding year and they couldn't even make the playoffs contained in the WORST branch contained in the AFC! in preserving with annum I listen how Rivers and the Chargers are going to the large Bowl and in preserving with annum they both lose 3 or 4 of their early video games and/or get contained in the playoffs and do not something! They beat Indy in 2007, it truly is all Rivers has ever done that concerns! Ben did not make the playoffs very last year with a properly 5 protection because he become KOd vs KC and neglected a Ravens OT loss. those video games that we lost in OT with out Ben are actual wins with him making Pittsburgh 11-5 very last year. Ben is 9-2 contained in the post season with 2 large Bowl earrings and he would get a third.

I think Phillip Rivers is rated about as high as he should be. He has proven himself to be more reliable and consistent than other quarterbacks with an equal amount of experience (i.e. Rex Grossman). But he is made to look better because he is on a superb team.

Most national media treat Rivers as an OK quarterback who is certainly not on par with the Peyton Mannings of the world. This is right about where he belongs...Not great, Not bad.

I don't think you can really say yet. He played great last year, but it was only one year. I wouldn't say overrated, maybe inconsistent, which may improve with experience. So after this year we'll probably get an idea how he is. It's pretty safe to say he's better than Eli Manning, and could be in the next top five QBs in the game.

I guess it depends on who's rating you look at. He is a serviceable quarterback on the team with the best running back in the league. His success comes from the fact that the passing game is a second option. He will develop and continue to blossom into a great player. Right now I see him as a Ben Roethlisberger type as long as he doesn't try to do too much the rest of the offense is good enough to carry him. He just has to avoid mistakes.

Probably. He has never been in the position where the outcome of the game has been placed on his shoulders. Until he has shown that he can complete that challenge time and time again, he'll be considered overrated.
