First they need to cut the season back to 10 games and eliminate the conference championship games. Have a committee pick 16 teams, just like basketball. Start the playoffs first week in December. At the same time cut the bowls back to 20 games, and leave slots open for 14 teams, ie the losers of the playoff games. Have the bowl games go back to the old conference alliances and send losing teams from the playoffs to the bowl game they would have gone to 10 years ago. This plan accomplishes three things, a national championship decided on the field, maintaining the bowls, who do contribute to the local economies and charities, and giving a good 9-3 team a reward of added practices and a trip to San Diego. It will never happen because it makes too much sense to have a playoff and the BCS bowls and conferences would lose power if the NCAA took control, like they should. The least the NCAA should do is put there foot down and get rid of the bowls that involve 6-5 teams with a losing conference record, no one watches or cares about these games except girlfriends and moms.

Without a doubt college football should have a playoff system. Not a traditional system, but the top 8 teams should play each other in three rounds. It will never happen, but it would be great to see. The number 9 team would be upset, but at least we wouldnt have an undefeated #3 left out.

Yes, there is no doubt that there should be some type of playoffs
It would be very hard to construct a fair system though
With all those divisions and the quality of certain divisions
Maybe just top 12 teams? With 1st team on each side getting a bye?
I have no idea... lol never really though about it in too much depth

Yes. 32 teams I would constuct it so that all Confrances with 10 or more teams would have two teams in it. Then I would invite all other confrence champions and then the remaining teams would be atlarge selections. If the Season is 12 games and starts on the last Saturday in August, we could start the playoffs on Christmas and have the national Championship the day before the Super Bowl.

Yes there should be a playoff system. Take all the conference champions and have them play other conferences number two teams with the winners advancing to play each other. Shorten the season back to ten games and implement the playoffs. Even the weaker conferences would get their shot and see why they are called the weaker conferences.

i think the best way would be to have the conference champions move on to the playoffs, then maybe 2 at large berths to include supposedly worthy schools from a smaller conference (like boise st last year, tulane a few years back)....in this way you would have pac 10, sec, big ten, acc, big 12, big east champs, then the highest ranked teams not from one of the major conferences in the playoffs.that way, there are 4 playoff games, that could be considered 'bcs' bowls, based on seeding, so they would still make their money, then have the semifinal and final games to decide the nat champs. i really think this is alot better than the current system, but i don't its not going to change in the next few years.
