Both-I would say you could learn from the mistakes in the past when making a decision but also keep in mind the future while doing so and how your choice would affect that future.

It doesn't hurt to take the two into consideration.... But if we dwell too much on the past or try to plan too much for the future, we may not make the best decision either.

Favorite quote about Past and Future....

"The time is now, the place is here. Stay in the present. You can do nothing to change the past, and the future will never come exactly as you plan or hope for."

It is subjective. Differes from individual to individual. Some might like to decide based on their past experiences. Some take decisions from futuristic point of view. For them past does'nt matter.

And there are people who are concerned with only their presents. They decide on what they find it appropriate at the present moment.

Overall what I feel is that, a balance should be there. People should use their learnings from their past decisions, focus on thier future objectives & should understand their present standing while taking any decision.

Our past is what we are today, decisions are made for the future, so no need to look back but evaluate what you have and what you can acquire, your present strength and expected future strength, are the factor that you use to making future decisions.

Look to the future when making decision cause the past is dead and can never be returned.

you can learn from the past, but don't base all your future decisions on one experience. Circumstances change, strategies will change as well, rarely do you face a recurring problem. Make sure that there will be elements of chance, sometimes making your decisions fail. Bt failure isnt a bad thing, its the price of success. Try to handle every problem by turning it into little pieces. Easier that way.

Learn from the past to be prepared for the future. Also to understand our needs & wants better based on past experiences.

YES, we need to study the history of the outcome with the decision, and look at our options while making the decision that we may need to explore, in other words, plan A, B & C. What do I do if this happens because of my decision, is there a plan "B" I can turn to, etc.,etc., etc.
