50 or 60 years ago the U.S. was looked up to by other countries and appreciated for the world power that it was. Hell, we just saved the world. Now, more and more people the world over see it as a bigger threat to global security than Osama Bin Jerkhead or any of this terrorist talk. Someday I would like to visit other countries as an American and not be attacked with biting political criticism.

America is actually the education capital of the world. We educate more people per year than any other industrialized nation. By far.

Americans have never been respected, globally. Before WWII, Americans were viewed as upstart barbarians - a 'peolpe' without a history or culture. After WWII, it was the stereotype of the 'Ugly American' - the fat, uncultured, yet inexplicably rich tourist, who was almost as comical as he was offensive.

The US, similarly, was viewed with disdain as an upstart nation for most of it's short history. After The Bomb, and with the developments of the Cold War, it was finally seen as a great power - but not ever a well-liked one. The might of the USA was a good thing to have to counter that of the USSR, but the Americans, themselves, were just so many cowboys to be thrown at the reds.

With the end of the Cold War, a much more sophisticated, educated, cosmopolitan American people expected to take a rightful place of prominence on the world stage. It didn't exactly work out that way.

Because they really didn't want to speak Russian about 50 or 60 years ago and we had nukes aimed at them. Don't worry, when the world has another eminant threat we will be on the top of everyone's list again. The world never has really liked the US, if it wasn't for our aid most of them would probably be openly hostile to us.

America is like luscious grapes high on the vines. The world is like the fox that wanted the grape so bad that tried and tried, and never could reach. Then the fox just walked away mad and angry and cursed the grapes until the day it died.

Maybe we should have free President Bush bobble head day for all foreign visitors. Or maybe we should offer one free flying lesson for every plane ticket bought for anyone wanting to visit the USA. Maybe they can redeem their passports for a free ticket to a rodeo and one free apple pie during their stay.

Honestly, I don't think it's America they hate. I think it's just Bush. Kind of like how America hates him.
