The old argument that nuclear power presents more problems with waste storage is not valid if we follow methods of some of other countries which are reusing the nuclear waste and/or using pellets rather than rods.

I agree that this is a necessary step to reduce greenhouse gases, but the US does not have a centrally planned government-owned economy like, say, China does. It's left to private business to invest in nuclear power. The gov't can do what it can to lighten the regulatory load, cap liability, and subsidize research but, by the end of the day, such a shift is subject to the whim of public acceptance. That may materialize for a while.

There are too many αssholes who are terrified of technology (or anything else that they don't understand) and who have gotten all of the 'sheeple' in a panic.

As soon as the 'sheeple' get tired of not having sufficient power to make popcorn in the microwave while they're watching MTV, they'll quite listening to the αssholes and things can get moving again.

The power plants would be built by utility companies. The government can't tell them how to run their business.

We don't need nuclear, it's a very dangerous medium.
