Did your xp disc come with another computer? if so it is probably a volume license and will not work on another machine The key on the side of the tower of a new computer is usually the same for all of the manufacturers computers of that model and cannot be used on another machine other than the one it was intended for. If it is a priated copy then you are s.o.l You will have to call MS if you are lucky they may give you another key. I highly doubt this though they may offer you a discount on a valid key though which would be your best bet unless you want to go back to 98 or something like that. hope this helps good luck

You must call Microsoft for a new Installation key. Remember that you are only permitted to load XP on one machine. Or if you have loaded XP more then three times it will be necessary to acquire a new CD Key for MS.

If you have an illegal key that would be one reason. If you are positive the product key is valid you should call Microsoft support and go through the phone validation process.

Again, if the key is legal they will most certainly help you. If it's not, well, then you need a legal product key.
