Use a grommet or dum-dum body sealer---parts stores carry it....make sure the wire doesn't contact or rub bare metal.

You can't just run a wire carrying voltage through a hole drilled in the firewall. It will eventually rub on the bare metal and short. You must use a grommet which will allow it to pass safely and has the wonderful side benefit of plugging the hole to make it waterproof.

well first of all if there was a wire running through it already it should have either a gromit or seal.. you should have tried to use the same one but if you made the hole bigge the best bet is to go get heavy duty silicone.. first clean out the firewall's hole with alcohol and just squeeze the silicone in there and wallah!
