2mm is quite thick to etch all the way through, also I don't know of any "household materials" that will etch stainless at all. Ferric chloride can etch stainless, and may be available at some art supply or electronic hobbies stores, but again, 2mm will be very difficult to get through. You might be better off with a jewelers coping saw, it will be slow, and require many blades (which, however are not expensive) but may give better results. Etching will take hours and leave a rather rough edge that may require much filling, so the saving over sawing might not be as much as you might think.

Are you etching a design into the plate or trying to bend it into a certain shape? Etching requires a tool that "scratches" a design into the material. These are sold at craft stores and Home Centers. Sandblasting is another way to do it using stencils that are especially made for this process. Bending, I don't know unless you make a form to shape it over.
