somebody told me on a chatroom that in the usa u r not allwoed to chat 2 girls under 18. i am not sure if i would believe that. that person said you would go to jail if you did? is that true.....?!

If you are an adult you should not be trying to lure the girl or talking about sex, that is illegal.

No it is not true!! How would it be prevented from letting someone over 18 talk to someone under 18?? In the US it is pretty much the same as it is here. They have paedophilia, etc, and thus all they can do is try to inform young people of the dangers of talking to and meeting people on the internet. Thus young people may be infomed not to talk to adults on the internet due to these dangers, but there is no law preventing people from doing so.

As far as I'm aware it's okay to chat - as long as it's in a clean chat room [meaning there is no talk of a sexual nature]. A lot of chat rooms will have moderators who are there to watch the room and who have the ability to ban anybody who may appear to be acting in an inappropriate manner. Unfortunately they have to rely on people telling them their real age - and a lot of people will lie to make themselves appear older or younger than what they really are. You just have to be extra vigilant and make sure that you don't give out any of your personal details.
NEVER use your real name, or give anybody on the internet your phone number or address - not to ANYBODY - no matter how friendly and nice they may seem at the time. Use caution always. :-)

There are tons of pre-teens in chat rooms. There are also tons of predators pretending to be teens in chat rooms. There is no law that states that you must be 18 or older to chat; there are MANY laws protecting those younger.Stings are set up all the time to find the predators...maybe that's what you're thinking of.

It is not illegal to chat with a minor in the internet unless the conversation is of a sexually explicit nature.

it is perfectly legal to chat with anyone of any age in the usa as long as you are not have converstaions of a sexual nature that may or may not lead to the meeting of that underage person for sexual purposes...it is also not legal to send pornographic material of any kind to a minor.

no. the only way u can go to jail is if u have sex with a girl under 18. consentual or not (not=rape) u can talk to anybody u want, but dont have sex with them.

Chatting is fine. Chatting about sex and sexual acts is considered exposing a minor to indecent acts that is illegal.
