yes, the sims 2 is a massive game and it takes a lot of ram. I download custom content as well and that means it is having to load even more. I also discovered that when you start the game it loads absolutely everything you need and doesn't read anything from the disc, because if you take the disc out once it's running the game will stay on and play fine.

It really depends on the PC and a lotta things. What processor do you have? A 1.8 gig or a 4.2 dual core 64 bit? Is the hdd in a RAID 0 array? Is it ATA or (hopefully) SAT or (better) SATA2? Is the hdd within 3/4 full (Over 3/4 will REALLY slow ALL things down)? Do ya have a gig of RAM or only 512 or (shudder) less? Are ya fragmented (another source of slow)? How many processes are always running in the background or do ya leave ONLY necessary system procs running ta keep yer puter lean n mean? All these or any combination can make the game your talking about take a minute or three to load or make ya go out for coffee while it loads!

The things you can do right now to speed things up FOR FREE are the defragmentation I mentioned and get the total hdd load to less than 3/4 capacity. When ya hit anywheres near 85% full you should notice all processes slow dramatically. 3/4 or under the hdd usually flies pretty fast.

Everyone asks me this question and I will answer to you the same mechanistic response.

The speed of the Sims 2 depends purely on what you are getting it to do and how much your computer is doing at the same time.

Turn off all programs running in the background [including windows explorer if you don't know how then don't (NOT talking about Internet explorer)]

Then restrict Sims 2 in what you are getting it to do for example the detailing on objects can be turned down, turning it down is good.

The finally Sims 2 is object based and the more objects you create in a plot the longer the GPU has to process it, keep plots small and don't get overly carried away unless you have a high spec machine, but even then I would say restrain yourself.

Your CPU and your GPU are at different speeds and occasionally you tell Sims 2 to do something and it takes a few seconds to do it, its thinking about it just be patient.

Personally I prefer Sims 1 [even though its limitted]

Yes, the Sims 2 does tend to take a long time to load on the p.c. This is probably due to you having a lot of things programmed on your p.c. so that the memory is packed.

Sims 2 caused my sister's laptop to crash. Sorry. True, though. (And yeah, after thorough investigation, that was the culprit). So, yeah. And I don't know why.. it tries to do too much. Isn't there a safer, online, Yahoo! Games version. I'd go with that if so. Because I looove my laptop.

Yes sometimes...

I figure it is because I have a lot of new music files... and they are eating up a lot of space.
