DARK STRANGER EFFECT: also referred to as the Bruce effect in many sources
Recently impregnated female (mouse) is removed from stud (father) and introduced to Dark Stranger (DS). The pregnancy is aborted and female returns to oesteus in c. 4 days "as if 1st mating had never occured"
Occurs in about 80% of cases.
Androgen dependent-castration of DS eliminates effect.
Androgen treatment of male or female or both enhances effect.
