O you fear the force of the wind,
The slash of the rain?
Go face them and fight them,
Be savage again.
Go hungry and cold like the wolf,
Go wade like the crane:
The palms of your hands will thicken,
The skin of your cheek will tan,
You'll grow ragged and weary and swarthy,
But you'll walk like a man!

The message I get from this poem is advice not to fear hard work or the elements. We should toughen ourselves and work hard at labor that produces something useful, and we will be better, stronger people for our efforts. Don't fear the environment. Go out and work in it, and you will be stronger and healthier and satisfied with yourself. I like this poem and I think it's good advice. Kind of a "get back to nature" message, check your priorities.

I am hearing "go be a man" or "grow up". LOL! Maybe even about growing up. I am part indian and my grandmother believes that she will be re-incarnated as an animal; as her after-life should fit her and who she was in her past life. So maybe we should "go hungry like the wolf". I am also gettong that many people change. And some will change in very different ways.

adversity makes you stronger... I like the nature references and the way it talks about becoming stronger... not just you will be stronger, but your cheek will tan, your skin on your palm will thicken... it's good.
