Because most democrats are spineless, little weasels who don't stand up for their decisions when the going gets rough.

Somewhere in the course of the evolution of the American Left and its party, the Democrats, the offering of formal apologies became an important political ritual. Most likely this grew out of the transition from an attitude of pride in America to an attitude of shame, a feeling that this country is the world's primary villain.

Perhaps not coincidentally, the trend toward a sense of America the evil, a polity requiring apologies, accelerated when the Soviet Union was vanquished in the Cold War, collapsing of its own internal contradictions (as the Marxists would say), leaving American the world's sole superpower. Conceding the point that President Reagan led America, the good to victory over the true Evil Empire just raises too many awkward questions about the activities of those who opposed his policies at every step.

A politician is a politician, no matter what party they hail from. They all backpedal when they are cornered. Example? President Bush. He said he would never sit at the table with the Iranians or the Syrians, yet he backpedaled on that didn't he? He said he would never accept benchmarks from the Congress, but now he's backpedaling and says he'll consider it. It happens all of the time in both parties, stop trying to make it a Democratic thing, it just doesn't wash.

Like when Tony Snow backpedaled and publically apologized after calling David Gregory "partisan"?

I think Carter, at 80 or however old he is, is just starting to abandon caring about what slavish conservatives think.

I would argue that most of the American people agree that Bush is among the worst Presidents in history, so Carter's statement was fairly mainstream.

Why do Republicans flagrantly take things out of context so often?

Don't bother answering. We already know it's because they're desperate for ammunition.

Oh, look, I'm getting downvoted by the little cowards again! (That's a badge of honour, y'know.)

They have no real core beliefs. The polls and public backlash is the only sense they have about where normal Americans are. Kind of like a baseball umpire establishing a strike zone for them.

because its 50/50 if the backpedaling comments make the news, and the damage is done already.

Please! I asked why so many so-called "pro-lifers" were craking jokes that babies taste not as good as hamburgers, and all they could do is say I dont have a sense of humor.

Caught those hypocrites RED handed, so my experience says otherwise.

Because facts cannot be disputed. When trapped by a fact they can only backpedal to minimize the damage they receive.

Wait though shouldn't your post about this already boring subject that seems to be tearing you Con's apart as we laugh be from FOX? How dare you link to CNN, they are bias left and would never report a liberal backpeddling....see how you all can't even stick to your own guns...I am still laughing, thanks for caring.

Don't EVEN say it's only a democratic thing. EVERYONE is guilty of that at some point.
