When you sign in, you're automatically in your "home" page where you can change things.
To add layouts (which are backgrounds, frames, buttons, etc.) google search "myspace layouts" and find one you like. The site will give you a big long HTML code, just copy and paste it into your "about me" section. (You have to go to "edit profile" to to this.) You can write things about you under the code, it usually ends in: "style>
" or something similar.
To add music, just go to a band's myspace page. Bands usually only have a few songs available, just click "add" next to the song you want in your profile. It'll automatically put it in for you. If you add a new song to your profile, it'll replace the old one.
When you're on your "home" page, you're not seeing what everyone else sees. To see your profile the way it appears to others, click the link under your photo that says, "profile". It'll show it to you as if you were a visitor. To get back, click "home".

Go to goodsearch.com and search for myspace layouts. There are plenty of sites that have codes already done that will makeover your whole page for you. You highlight the entire code of the design you like, copy it, then go to 'edit profile' and paste it in the 'about me' section, then save all changes.
As for the music, you can go to MySpace music (just click on music on your task bar) and search for whatever you want) when you find a song you like, click add to profile and it will usually appear there without a problem.
For the slideshow, there are sites that do that for you too. Try photobucket.com
Oh, and set your profile to private and ony accept people as friends if you already know them. Keep your password private and make it something that cannot be easily hacked.
Good luck!

Use http://rockyou.com/ for slideshows
Use http://www.strikefile.com/myspace/ for skins and borders
Use myspace music (button on the myspace page) or http://www.esnips.com (got to have an account and make a widget though first) for music
If you need help with HTML go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com/ or http://www.lissaexplains.com/

Under your display picture on your home page click on profile, and that is exactly what everyone else see's.
To add backgorunds etc, search what you are looking for in yahoo and i am sure there will be millions of results click on one, and find a background or a code you want, select it all and copy it.
Then paste it in your about me section.
If you have anymore questions please ask.
