I'm breastfeeding and was wondering what can I eat if I avoid all the gassy foods such as, beans, bran, broccoli, brusse sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, caffeine, dairy and onions??? I look in my fridge and I'm lost. What can I eat to prevent my newborn from becoming gassy?

potatos, pasta, carrots, peas, rice, chicken, tofu, squash, pork, the list goes on. But luckily most babues outgrow sensitivites after the frist 6 weeks or so. Good luck

I did for the most part - a lot of the advice is ultra cautious as the risks are fairly low - with the mercury, it is based on a regular large consumption of those fish and most people wouldn't normally exceed the danger levels. I didn't worry too much about steak, so long as it wasn't too rare...You are a little bit more susceptible to bugs in preg as your immune level is slightly suppressed so that you don't "reject" the baby, so you so need to be a bit careful. I did get a sickness bug when I was about 16 weeks preg with my first after being in France for the weekend - It was awful and it did make me worry that he might be affected too - fortunately he was fine. I would def be a bit more wary whilst abroad - travellers tum is bad enough without being preg!

Only trace amounts of what you eat will be passed to your baby and it will only effect the baby if he or she has an intolerance to them.

There are so many different opinions, both medical and anecdotal, but I wouldn't want to cut all those from my diet, those are all good for you.

My lactation consultant also said that if you were eating foods while pregnant they are less likely to be problematic because the baby was actually getting more of them in the womb than they do in the breast milk.

Babies are also just gassy. Their digestive system is not fully developed yet. If you do want to elminate foods, start one by one so you can pinpoint what you believe to be the offender, but there may or may not be one.

Good LUck to you

Do you know for sure that your baby is sensitive to all those foods? Not all babies are, with both of mine I was very lucky and it didn't matter what I ate, although chocolate did make my duaghter's face break out! Even if your baby is really sensitive, hang in there - there are lots of other things you can eat, and congrats for doing the absolute best thing you can do for your little one!
