These people are willing to die for their cause do you really think making them pile up in some sort of gay orgy or dunking their heads in water is really going to make them become forth coming to you?

Actually yes. It's disturbing an inhuman, but very effective. People who are willing to die for a cause, are generally more comfortable with the concept of death than the imminent reality. Even the hardcore would rather not go to hell when they die.

Certain reactions are instinctive and all but impossible to consciously control. Skilled interrogators use those reactions to force information out of a subject. For example, the reaction to being drowned, a condition simulated in many interrogation techniques. It's not simply pain that is involved in interrogation processes, but a broader knowledge of many different stimuli and how they can effect a person's mental state. That's how interrogation works.

Yes torture does work. These peole want to die, not live through extreme pain and hardship. The key word is live. Most of the people that are tortured are not killed. They continue to live in pain until they release information.

No, the question is, as stupid as it is, how does butt pyramids or dunking someone under water a few times constitute "torture?"

And if they want to die then why are you so concerned about how they're made to pose in a goddam photo?

I mean I'm not saying it was appropriate but the people who did that are doing TIME - not just lost their jobs and pensions but they're doing TIME. Of all the things to get your panties in a twist about, the rights of terrorists????

Pain is a huge motivator. The suicide bombers feel no pain and don't suffer. If they did I guarantee the number of those willing would drop drastically.

Well, if these people want to die, I would imagine that they would want to die as quickly as possible, rather than suffer in the process.
