Technically, the answer is Babe Ruth because he started out as a pitcher. But if you want to include only pitchers, then the answer is Wes Ferrell.
Wes Ferrell
-----------------
With 38 home runs, Ferrell tops the career list for pitchers, and his .280 batting average is good for fourth on the list of pitchers with at least 500 at-bats. And Ferrell even drew a fair number of walks, resulting in his fine .351 career on-base percentage.

i could say the two probable will make the HOF. i think of voters will take a distinctive look into gamers, yet in assessment to McGwire who's profession replaced into one dimensional. besides the shown fact that, neither of them are arguably the perfect gamers of all time, it is purely stupid. Bonds has the homestead run checklist as a results of fact of sturdiness, the steroids and the increasing ease to hit homestead runs.. for the duration of Bonds' profession, the final homestead run hitter hit 17.5 HR/six hundred at bats, 21.5% much less perplexing than for the duration of Aaron's profession and 167% much less perplexing for the duration of Ruth's time. Clemens, mutually as large, the effects of the steroids nonetheless is an unknown element. How lots did it help him? yet, he's no longer the perfect the two as a results of fact even if if he did no longer take steroids, he's no longer previous to Greg Maddux sufficient to make the best-ever record, that probable belongs to Walter Johnson. Steroid shoppers now (beginning after the communicate) make get no lenience in any respect from HOF voters.

Ruth is the clear winner, but if we discount him, the best hitting pitcher was probably Wes Ferrell.

i would say that carlos zambrano or jason marquis are pretty good hitting pitchers. they both have won golden slugger awards. i dont know where they would rank baseball history. kerry wood hit a few home runs himself. this is obviously a biased answer since im a cubs fan. a lot of the all time great hitting pitchers are from the hayday of baseball; it is very hard to find good hitting pitchers nowadays. i change my vote to mike hampton.
