I recently purchased a Chevy Cobalt, and just in the past week "Barney Fife" has started leaking a lot of oil. I just scheduled an appointment at the dealership, but has anyone else had this problem with a Cobalt?

You did'nt put if it were "NEW". I do know that some of the early Cobalts had a Transaxle that they (Chevrolet) put the wrong Trans fliud in them and recalled them. If you had bought a used one maybe its Trans fluid and not oil. Does it stink really bad? If so it is a tranny leak not oil leak.

My 2006 chevy cobalt has a mystery leak that I haven't been able to pinpoint due to the cramped engine compartment, but normally main oil seals are to blame, which wouldn't surprise me if they're failing in your car already due to chevy uses terrible parts, and apparently are now using Mitsubitshi engines and transmissions which aren't very reliable anymore.

So I have a fluid leak but I can't figure it out either.

those automobiles became infamous for wearing the valve courses out in them and inflicting that to happen and from time to time changing the valve stem seals does not end that from happening, have a keep examine it and do a leak down try on it to work out if it has worn valve courses in it,the smoke your seeing from it suitable now may be the oil being burnt in the cylinders from it leaking in the direction of the valve stem seals, good success with it,
