You need a program that will clean out everything. Just doing the standard stuff is fine for casual snoopers, but if you want to be sure that no-one can find anything (or recover files you think you've deleted but actually are still on your hard disk), then you need some software to clean things up.
You see, deleting files to your recycle bin, and then emptying the bin doesn't actually remove the files from your hard disk. They are still there, until they are overwritten by something else. And though records of places you visited are stored in temporary files and they can be deleted, that doesn't mean all traces are gone.
cCleaner and nCleaner work really well. They wipe all the records and also clean up your computer by cleaning out bad registry files and backups that you don't need. nCleaner (which is freeware) also can be used to multi-overwrite free space on your disk with "garbage" so the original stuff is gone. Then it frees up the space so you can use it normally.
Anyway, IMHO it's no-one else's business what sites you look at. You have every right to protect your privacy and that's the end of the argument :) This is why these products exist!

There are couple of steps where you can erase the history of the internet browser. First of all, make sure that you start with a newly booted system, do not open any progran and... Go to the start buttom and go to run. Under Run, type in
%temp% and enter. The results are some of the items that you received while you are on line.
Highlight them and start deleting them. Remember to delete everything the system allows you to delete.
Second one is the internet icons. Go to start and control panel and look for the internet icon. Highlight the icon and use your mouse and right click. There should be an open window option, choose open and a window will come up. choose delete, enter and another with will open. Choose delete all and another window will open, put a check mark on the open box that is asking you that it will delete the add-on and enter.
Wait for the history and temporary files to be deleted. And that is all to it

The best and easiest way to clear all the history and be sure to leave no traces behind is CCleaner.
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. CCleaner also fixes your registry. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware.

Just like some of the people already answered, you can delete browsing history, but remember, that some of the free software may delete some components of programs you are using which will make it difficult for you to use. Also the information is still stored on your hard drive.
CC cleaner is one of the good ones to delete browsing history which you may think you already deleted.

Ok, look at the top right of your browser, near that area, it should say tools. Click on tools and then you sohuld see "delete browsing history" click on that, and it should show you something that lets you click on "Delete temporary internet files" "Delete cookies" "Delete history" "Delete forms" and "Delete passwords" click on all of them, except for passwords, if you have passwords at certain sites you want to save. If not, then click all of them, and it should all go away. ANd if you want to delete your google history as well, I think you have to have a toolbar on your browser to do it, but click on the little arrow by the toolbar, and at the bottom of the drop down list, it should say "clear history" click that, and wham, now everything will stay personal.

lol don't look at suff you don't want other people to see. If the FBI wanted to see what you have been looking at, they could. Unless your that obsessed wth being a cybercriminal ala all the hackers out there. How stupid would it feel to spend money online to A) have the program not work and waste your money and B) give some hacker access to your computer?

In your browser, go to tools, then options, then delete your history and your cookies/temporary files. Then, to make sure, go to your start menu, select run. Type in %temp% and delete all the files in the folder.
