High heels serve to make a woman's walk more "feminine", or careful and delicate, and push up the thigh and calf muscles, accentuating her tush.
It is inane to insist that women wear something in a professional setting which was clearly designed to boost sex appeal. They put unhealthy amounts of stress on the calves and lower back by forcing the woman to stand around on her toes all day. In addition, they can cause difficulty in an emergency situation, such as when a woman needs to evacuate a building quickly.
I have roundly refused to wear them at work, instead wearing very dressy, professional-looking flats, and been told off for it. I vaguely inferred that I had a chiropractor who would be happy to "write me a note" excusing me from this particular barbaric custom, and they dropped the subject. I guess some people still think we ladies need a Very Important Male to help us make our own health decisions.

I love high heels on women, so if men created them great! If we did though we probably expected you might only need two or three different colors or styles not the 100s you buy!
I can really understand if I was a women wanting to buy lots of dresses but the love of shoes thing I just don't get!

Actually, men first created high heels for men - not women. Women didn't start wearing really high heels until the 60's.

High heels were created by men, for men (believe it or not). This idea that men created them to "torture" women is absurd. No one forces anyone to buy and wear them.........I have no idea where that came from.

In the 17th century, in France, everyone wore high heels, including the men. Throughout history, high heels have come in and out of fashion.

In 1533, the diminutive wife of the Duke of Orleans, Catherine de Medici, commissioned a cobbler to fashion her a pair of heels, both for fashion, and to increase her stature. They were an adaptation of chopines (elevated wooden soles with both heel and toe raised not unlike modern platform shoes), but unlike chopines the heel was higher than the toe and the "platform" was made to bend in the middle with the foot.

Don't know the answer to that one, but whoever it was deserves a HUGE thank you from me. There is nothing that can make me feel sexier than a pair of high heeled sandals with my jeans. And hey...if it makes me look sexy...all the better. But its all about how I feel about myself...and high heels definitely do it!

Perhaps they were made by sinister chiropractors who wanted a bigger business.
