I am going to buy a new monitor, mostly for fast action gaming, I am trying to decide between a CRT flat screen or a LCD. A guy at work has a Dell ultrascan p1110 CRT, its huge, but has great picture, and is 21", what I am looking for, I can get one for $100. . Best buy currently has a MAG 19" wide screen LCD for $160, looks nice, but the guy at the store said the contrast ratio was low at 1600:1, so it wouldnt be very sharp and bad for gaming. but the dell CRT is only 200:1, but looks very sharp and very clear, plus the price is good. Size does not matter to me. What is the better choice?

I play games like Doom 3 , Counter Strike , Counter Strike Source Etc. I have an LG Flatron 19 inch LCD Monitor in DVI. Go with LCD but make sure it has a Very Fast Response Time and a DFC or Digital Fine Contrast ratio of 1400:1 for your response time Usually 4ms Is More Then Enough. Guy Under Me I ALREADY SAID THAT!

Go for the LCD. A 1600:1 contrast ratio for a lcd is not bad. They are much better for your eyes too. Anything below 20ms response time should be good. I had a 20 inch with 25ms response and I never saw any ghosting.

Contract ratio of 1600:1 is among the highest available.

Be careful of specs. The senses perceive differences when they approach orders of magnitude, i.e. 10x not 2x or 3x.

I'm using a Viewsonic 22" and very happy. Besides, it has a three year warranty. Look in Costco and check the on-line reviews before purchasing.

Consider an LCD to save real estate on your desk as well as minimizing the EMI!

The LCD is much easier on your eyes than a CRT. For gaming, you should be looking at responce time as well as the contrast ratio. Responce time is the amount of time it takes the screen to refresh. The lower the number the better it would be for gaming.
