Lots of religions give people the illusion of having some "special" control in their life whether it's about casting spells or praying for something but, either way, you're trying to get an outcome you want. (I'm not talking about plain old discipline and hard work here but the "magical" stuff.)
Can we change things with just prayers, incantations or spells? That's the big question. Believers say "sure!" and disbelievers say "prove it!"

When I pray, I get answers. Not right away and not in a voice, but answers none the less. I am afraid this history of mine has provided too many coincidences for me to believe that nobody is listening. I do not posses any power and I do not claim that I have achieved anything, But there is something here beyond what we know.

I believe that we do control our destiny. With every choice, every thought in our heads. But not to the extent of moving mountains and such. Religions are controling the masses. Each has its own following who believe what they believe because that it what they are taught. People are to ignorant these days to actually see the facts and draw their own conclusions.

ALL religions are at least slightly crazy if they believe in ANY of the mythological nonsense they seem to espouse.
As for destiny, there isn't any. Thats the beauty of life. It's all undecided and we all make our own futures.

Ya, it's you.
All humans control something, or try to -- ourselves, each other, the environment, the present, the future, etc.
Wanting to distance ourselves from the label of "controlling" is only an issue when the label it self is perceived as wrong.

Magical-thinking as opposed to rational-thinking is, in itself, a part of healthy human imagination and life experience. It's not the magical-thinking that causes trouble. It's the LACK of rational-thinking. The lack of rational-thinking and the subsequent rise of magical-thinking and religiosity without rational-thinking abilities is becoming a matter of grave concern. As an example, see the amazingly well-done documentary sometime called "Advertising and the End of the World" in which the rise of religiosity and magical-thinking and the decline of rational cognitive skills are examined in relation to global warming. Without rational-thought, one cannot think for oneself. One must be able to think for oneself to remain free.
