My favorite "on the road" album is Frank Black's Teenager of the Year. It's just got that long drive sort of a feel. Also for a record the Mars Volta record Frances the Mute is great, over an hour of continuous music to crank up. Time goes by very fast. Brilliant record. For songs:
(I wanna live on an) Abstract Plain - Frank Black
Kamera - Wilco
Box Elder - Pavement
Elevate Me Later - Pavement
Unfair - Pavement
Heres a Lazy Sunday Drive cd that I made and was saved in iTunes
Winner's Blues - Sonic Youth
Everything Means Nothing to Me - Elliott Smith
Bishops Hat Cactus - Franklin For Short
We Live Again - Beck
Slick As Snails - Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard
Canyon Ride - Beachwood Sparks
A Bit of Wind - Fruit Bats
It was A Crime I Never Told You About the Diamonds in Your Eyes - The Black Heart Procession
Spanway Hits - Flake Music
Castles Made Of Sand - the Jimi Hendrix Experience
You Gotta Move - Heatmiser
Real Bad News - Aimee Mann
Slow and Steady Wins the Race - Pedro the Lion
The Tain - The Decemberists
Mild Child - The Shins
The Wild Kindness - Silver Jews

Good call on the No Country!
I go on a lot of road trips and it is best to have a good variety of songs. CD's you can listen to all the way through without having to switch tracks are the best. Just put it in and let it play! Mix in some classic rock (jimi hendrix, the doors, led zeppelin), Rock (breaking benjamin, rage against the machine), HipHop/rap (ludacris), throw a few 80's tunes in there, just mix it up!
It is always good to pass time by listening to fun songs or songs that you can jam to. Don't be afraid to sing along or play air drums or drums on your stearing wheel....t
HAVE A GOOD TRIP!

Judas Priest is great for road trips. Try the albums "Screaming for Vengenace" and "Point of Entry" (has a song called "Headed Out To The Highway"!). I also agree with the guy that suggested Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell", but I'd also bring the other two Bat Out Of Hell's. All three are amazing and great music for the road. Try Neil Young "Sleeps With Angels" later into the trip, or even on the way back. Its a bit quieter but still a great listen. Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" is great for faster driving. Especially the first two tracks "Ace's High" and "2 Minutes To Midnight".

Depends on your musical taste....I like some songs from Grey's Anatomy (you can find them and the artists on their website), some old school, such as 70's music, rock and roll such as Rolling Stones, Christian musci such as Chris Tomlin, Third Day and Casting Crowns and some jazz and blues instrumental.....Keith Urban songs are good....some are rock not country and Jennifer Nettles has some great songs with her band she was with before Sugareland...she REALLY rocks
