In my opinion they played the front role in World War II. Without they United States England and other allies would have been overthrown by Germany. The United States provided the majority of the troops, aircraft, tanks and munitions and provided the leadership that planned the battles that ultimately secured the victory in Europe and Japan. Obviously England played a major role, but no one can deny that the United States provided overwhelming military might and that was the part of the equation that spelled victory for the allies.

The fate of WWII was decided by the outcome of Operation Barbarossa....but that's just to answer some of the people above. The US' industrial might was overwhelming. Their tanks and aircraft overwhelmed the Germans on the Western Front. Air superiority was the key to victory at Normandy and the French campaign. The Germans could't move by day and were obliterated when they tried to form up for counter attacks....

The Russians have been already pushing the germans decrease back while the united statesjoined the conflict yet while hitler had overwhelmed the soviet union it could have purely been a count number of time in the previous he attacked united statesa. besides for my area. yet i'm confident that D day would not have been available if the Russians had no longer drawn off the main important area of the german forces or if united statesa. had no longer joined the conflict. The germans suffered there heaviest loses on the jap front and whether individuals prefer to think of they gained the conflict for us it replaced into the Russians who did the the main important proportion of the artwork.

Supplies, Weapons, Personnel. But they almost left it too late.
That is why there are conspiracy theories, for example, that Pearl Harbour was allowed to happen to allow the US to declare war. They just did not calculate the extent of the devastation. They ignored Brit. radar sets and US forward command vessels which recorded Jap. aircraft advance.
Supplies included Ships, Planes, Ordinance, vehicles and food sent in Convoys from Halifax N.S Can. to Murmansk Russ. and Glasgow Scot.
The Canadians also sent much to Britain in WW2.
Britain was the only assisted country to payoff it's debt to the US from WW2, this was in 2006.
My father was on the Atlantic Convoys (HMS Maloja and HMS Ledbury) and on the supply of oil to save Malta by HMS Ledbury and HMS Penn dragging the broken US Tanker Ohio into Valletta harbour, after arguably one of the most costly or important naval battles with the axis powers.
(see web sites "Operation Pedestal" for details of all involved).
Many Americans like to think of it as a humanitarian or neighbour help role, which in some respects it was, but if the Battle of Midway had been lossed by the US and Britain had fallen, the US and Canada may have found themselves in dire straits with enemies on both shores. (The U boats were already there). It took nucleur bombs for the Japs. to surrender and the devestation of Germany by mass conventional bombing.
The major benefit to the allies, in defeating Germany, was Hitler's betrayal of Stalin and opening up the Eastern front therby diverting important forces from the English speaking allies. If he had let Rommel run the war, the outcome may have been vastly different. We got lucky, several times. T. G.
