I'm right here, Paige. I open doors, carry heavy things, give compliments, always help out when I can, use appropriate language....and...
am cooking dinner for a lady named Paige this evening---shrimp, fish, peas and baked potato. My first date in almost two years.
Gentlemen don't always get the girl...Brian

You are preaching to the choir, lady. I have a theory about this: I think parents have stopped teaching their boys how to treat ladies, and how to display proper manners in general. I have a son and I make darn sure that he holds the doors for ladies, waits until the ladies at the table are seated to sit (he'll pull out her chair for her when he's old enough to have a date) and in general thinks of women as LADIES. I think American men are boorish as a general rule and I got so fed up, I chose to marry an Irishman instead. He was trained, old school, in Ireland how to behave like a gentleman and I really appreciate that.
My pet peeve: the homey (that's any race, folks) on the NYC subway who spreads his legs so wide they take up 3 seats. Those legs won't move for an old person or a pregnant lady, let alone a lady in general! My favorite verbal jab if the legs won't shift for someone (and I know this isn't great manners...) is, "Hey, it's not that big, buddy. Move over."
Wow, that question really got me going. And, hey: if I were at the dump in line behind you and saw you struggling, I'd certainly help you. I'm a woman, though, and I know your point is that the men could lend a hand.... but we all need to be good examples for these boorish folks!

I totally know what you mean...it's like the test too to see if a guy is worth it in the long run. If you're on a date and he doesn't hold the door he's a huge no in my book. It's just manners, we're still equals if you hold the door open for us.
I've only met three real gentlemen in my life my dad, my brother and my ex. My ex would walk on the outside of the sidewalk in case a car came so he would get the initial blow, hold doors, carry things (heavy or not), and open my car door first (especially if it was cold out!) there really aren't many true gentlemen out there!
THIS IS TO ALL THE GENTLEMEN WHO DO, DO THE RIGHT, POLITE THING! THANKS, WE DO REALLY APPRECIATE YOU!

All the gentlemen have gone to the "other" side. I notice a lot that men will push and shove to go places. I think because there is such an emphasis on female power, men feel they're in competition. Women use to be perceived as gentle creatures, now women are viewed as strong, independent individuals. Therefore, men feel that they need to treat us like one of the guys. Men don't feel they need to be cautious of women like before. We're more of an equal. Don't get me wrong though, there are still some gentlemen out there still!

I moved to Thailand 10 1/2 years ago. Seriously, you ladies keep telling men you are equal to us, which I don't dispute. You say you want to be treated the same as a man and paid the same as a man. When we go along with your wishes you complain. I know that we can't live without the female of the species but you are very hard to understand.

I'm a gentleman. I would have helped you take your trash out and I would have held the door open for you to go out first as ladies go first. Not all guys are the way that you are describing them.

I think in a way women helped make it that way by wanting to be equal about everything, now some men get confused if they should help or not because some women get the attitude,I don't need a man's help. That's my opinion anyway.
